cruelty line: 0300 1234 999 navigation home rehoming adoption procedures dogs cats rabbits ferrets reptiles other animals shelter about us meet the staff boarding ‘the animals’ touch rugby how to help donations & shelter sponsorship volunteering friends news / events links contact welcome to the sussex brighton and east grinstead branch of the rspca. we are an entirely self-funding charity, run by an active committee of volunteers who are trustees of the branch funds. the branch is responsible for the brighton animal shelter at patcham. over 3000 animals are cared for at the shelter each year, including dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, reptiles, foxes, badgers, hedgehogs, chickens, ferrets and various birds, both wild and domestic. facilities are available for almost every animal until it is ready for re-homing or release. please take a look at all the animals that currently need re-homing, as well as lots more information on boarding, donating, events, volunteering, and lots more! recent news 03 sep cookie: 4-5 years, neutered male, terrier cross cookie came in on the 1st of september due to a change in circumstances. he is a friendly boy who can be a little shy until he knows you. cookie is housetrained, ok when left, travels well in the car, knows sit and his name on command and enjoys playing with toys, especially a ball. he has lived with another dog in his previous home and seems good when walked with other dogs. cookie needs a home without cats. he is a new arrival who is still being assessed. read more 03 sep charlie: 18 months, neutered male, cross breed charlie came in on the 1st of september due to a change in circumstances. he is a bouncy, friendly boy who can be a little shy at first. charlie is housetrained, knows sit, down and his name on command, is ok when groomed and enjoys playing with toys, especially a ball. he has lived with another dog in his previous home but can be very nervous and vocal when meeting dogs he doesn't know so would benefit from further socialisation. charlie needs a home without cats. he is looking for an experienced, active owner and will need further training. charlie is a new arrival who is still being assessed. read more 01 sep pongo ferret; pongo came in for rehoming from one of our inspectors. he was removed as his owner wasn't looking after him. he is about 1 year old, we have neutered, vaccinated him and microchipped him. pongo is a nice cheeky ferret with alot of character he will need an experienced home. he is a big ferret 1.5kg, and is still young so can be naughty sometimes. he will need to go with other ferrets so he can play with them and use up his energy. if you have had ferrets before and are experienced in handling ferrets please contact the shelter read more 31 aug imp and elf russian hamsters; imp and elf came into the shelter via the police. they had been abandoned and the police found them. they have been looked after and were in a clean cage with food and water. imp and elf are russian dwarf hamsters, imp is the grey one and elf the grey and white one. we believe them to be brothers as they are happy to live together. we are guessing they are adults and fully grown. they are sweet and can be handled but we would recommend they didn’t go with young children as they are so quick and very small. we are looking for a home with people experienced in russian dwarfs. read more 31 aug william rabbit; william came into the shelter via our hospital in putney, london. william was removed by an inspector from his home. he was with his brother, they were both very thin and in a poor condition. unfortunately williams brother died in putney. william is about 6 months old, neutered male. he has been vaccinated and microchipped. he is a sweet rabbit and likes food and treat time. he is now fit and healthy and is looking for a home with a spayed female rabbit for company read more 23 aug edna: 2-3 years, female, saluki cross edna came in on the 22nd of august via the local dog wardens. she was an unclaimed stray. edna is a friendly, gentle girl who is a little shy at first. she knows sit on command and is good when groomed but would benefit from further training. edna is ok with other dogs but prefers calmer dogs as she can be worried if they are too boisterous, once she gets to know them she will have a little play! she could be homed with children 10 years or older but needs a home without cats. read more 23 aug ella: spayed female, 7 years ella came to us from the rspca in london where hopefully she can have a fresh start. she’s a bit of a character, likes fuss and a tickle, but when she’s in the mood! ella isn’t keen on other cats as she likes being the queen of the house and unfortunately she also doesn’t like children. it seems ella has had a bit of a hard life, but hopefully with the right person, she will settle and be very happy. (will need a garden) read more 23 aug clunk: spayed female, 14 weeks clunk came to us from the rspca in london. she had been left at the side of a road. clunk is a very shy girl who is a little frightened of people, but she is slowly improving day by day. she will need a quiet calm home without children and with someone who is experienced. clunk would like a little garden, so when she gains her confidence, she can sit in the sun and chase things! read more 23 aug snoopy: 1 year, neutered male, cross breed snoopy came in on the 20th of august as he was unwanted. he is a friendly, lively, bouncy boy who knows sit on command and is good when groomed but would benefit from further training. he loves to play with toys, especially a ball. snoopy is ok with female dogs and some other males but can be a bit full-on. he could only live with another dog in his new home if it was a female. he needs a home without cats or small animals. snoopy is looking for an active, experienced home and could live with children 8 years or older. read more 10 aug eva rabbit: eva came in for rehoming as a stray rabbit that had got stuck in a wall cavity between two houses. one of our collection officers had to go out to rescue her. she did not harm herself and has not been fazed by the ordeal. eva is a rex cross lop rabbit, about 8-10 weeks old when she arrived at the shelter on 20th july. she has now been neutered, vaccinated and will be microchipped. eva is looking for a home, with a neutered male rabbit for company and with access to an indoor or shed setup for her first winter as she is so small read more 10 aug pip rabbit: pip came in for rehoming as his owner could no longer care for him. we think pip is about 2-3 years old. he is a lion head cross rabbit. he is now neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. pip is a sweet, quiet and gentle rabbit. he has not been handled much but you can pick him up. his favourite time at work is veg time in the afternoon. we are looking for a home with a spayed female rabbit who can keep pip company read more 07 aug rupert: 5 years, neutered male, cross breed rupert came in on the 6th of august due to a change in circumstances. he is a friendly, affectionate boy who knows sit and his name on command, is housetrained, travels well in a car, is ok when groomed and enjoys playing with toys, especially a squeaky. rupert has been isolated from other dogs in his previous home so is very unsure and frightened around them, we are currently working on his socialisation but he will need an experienced owner to continue this. he could live with children 8 years or older who are used to dogs and will need a garden he can run around in. rupert needs a home without cats or small animals. read more 28 jul rory: neutered male, 2-3 years rory has come from the rspca in london where he was dumped outside the shelter in a box! he’s a little shy around new people, and we think would best suit a calmer home without children. he is also not keen on other cats.
